Robust second graders
Today in second grade, two of our 'robust' (fancy name for vocabulary) words were 'rare' and 'common'. The teacher explained that common things happened every day, rare things happened only once in a while. She asked for examples from the children and hands went up.
It went from "Playing video games is common" to several "seeing my mom (or dad) is rare". :(
It is often suddenly sobering when you open discussions with second graders.

Crocs for sale
You either love them or despise them. I am a recent convert to them.
Last year I was persuaded by a friend at work to try out Crocs shoes because we were on our feet so much. I could not justify wearing paying $40 for a pair, so I bought a knockoff brand at Walmart for $6.
Comfy.....I mean, change your life comfy. I liked.
With my foot problems this year I have just about worn out my one blue pair, so I've been awaiting the new arrivals at Walmart. Meanwhile my sister told me last Friday about a Crocs mega sale near my home, so we jumped in the car. It was an old Circuit City. We were herded in through a cattle shute type of thing and entered the inner sanctum.
And then I saw the signs. They said TEN DOLLARS. I thought maybe they would be selling for half price....20 bucks. But no, they were all $10. No one there was fazed by the gigantic cardboard boxes that held the cargo. Who cares? They were $10 Crocs! We promptly began rooting through cardboard boxes that you almost had to hang into to reach the shoes. One of the workers did say that a woman had fallen into one of the boxes that morning. What we won't do for comfy shoes.
I quickly found a pair of these:
But only one of these:
Only ONE! A very nice woman who was working there told me she'd be right back and took my shoe with her. When she came back, she said she could not find another in that size, but that she would keep looking. Sure you will, I thought. But when we were stepping into the check out line later, a young man came running up and said, "Are you the one who wanted these?"
!!!!!
I was quite happy.
It all reminded me of the story Caps for Sale.
I kept thinking, "Crocs! Crocs for sale!"
Then people hanging into the huge boxes like monkeys.
tee hee
Keep your eye out for a Crocs Mega Expo sale near you. They were heading to Texas from here.

Paid in Full
Then Jesus said to his disciples,
"If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for me will find it.
Matthew 16:24-25

What is with the heck of me?
Spring Fever:
(wikipedia)
So now I know what's wrong with me. Spring fever.
.....not to be confused with cabin fever....which I've also been known to come down with....occasionally.
In the northern hemisphere the symptoms usually arise from mid-March to mid-April, and depending on the person may be more or less pronounced. Weariness (despite an adequate amount of sleep), sensitivity to changes in the weather, dizziness, irritability, headaches, and sometimes aching joints and a lack of drive are the most common.

Fool's Day
Apparently the BBC loves April Fool's Day. They do a hoax on their listeners each year!
Atheist's don't like it at all.
To people who work with second graders however, it's just tiring! (insert your own reason for this, it's probably on my list too)
No really good pranks to report up to this point, just silliness.
However, this morning I was in Mrs. F's classroom when a moth began darting around. At first a girl said happily, "Oh look at the butterfly!" When it was pronounced a moth students were alternately screaming, laughing and jumping up and down to persuade it to move on. Poor moth.....a sad and disillusioned existence compared to the beloved butterfly. Mrs. F (smart lady) opened the classroom door, moved out of the way and the moth dashed out as if he were a rational thinking being. It reminded me of the scene in You've Got Mail when a butterfly gets on the subway and rides until exiting to buy a new hat "which will turn out to be a mistake, as hats always are."
It is always a rational idea to get the heck away from second graders on April 1 though.
